Eats & Treats

Lots of our guests enjoy cooking at the Potting Shed and there is lots of great local produce to enjoy. Borders butchers are second to none and there are a number of great delis selling local cheeses and other goodies. We also have a number of local breweries and  distilleries. Whether it is popping a casserole in the bottom oven of the Everhot and striding out for a walk while it cooks or having a BBQ on the patio in the summer. However, there are lots of great places to eat nearby. These are a few of our favourites:-

The Buccleuch Arms Hotel St. Boswells 01835 822243   You have the option of Bistro or Bar, both of which serve great value, local produce. Steaks are a speciality but there are also delicious vegetarian and fish options.

The Mainstreet Trading Company Bookshop, Cafe and Deli St Boswells  01835 824087   Gorgeous café with seasonal soups, light lunches and delicious home baked cakes and scones. For my taste it serves the best coffee in the Borders. Pop into the deli to stock up on some great cheeses or other delicious goodies to take back to the Potting Shed.

Born in the Borders near Ancrum 01835 830495  A great spot for lunch with a constantly changing, imaginative menu to reflect the best of Borders produce. Crab salads from Eyemouth, Rarebit made with the onsite brewery beer and classics like Border lamb stovies are some of our favorites. You can buy the beer from the onsite brewery as well as other Borders food produce.

The Hoebridge  01896 823082  This is our go to for celebrations and special treats, we love it!!  An imaginative, seasonal menu that changes every month enabling you to enjoy the freshest, local season produce available. The ambience is wonderful and staff friendly and attentive which all make for a spoiling evening.

Ochiltree’s Dining near Melrose 01896 863962   Light seasonal lunches or spoiling afternoon teas with great views of Abbotsford House.

Old Melrose Tea Room and Bookshop near Melrose 01835 824597   Great place for light lunches and afternoon tea.  Lovely walks from here and a brilliant second hand book shop and a good selection of antiques, local crafts and hand crafted furniture. We love walking from here to the summer house and enjoying some tea and cake on our return.

No.1 Peebles Road Innerleithen 01896 830873 A firm favourite of ours. Great for breakfast if you are heading for walking or biking in Peebles but lunches and tea and cake are equally good.

The Green House Cafe Melrose 01896 800360  Ideally situated in the centre of Melrose with views across to the Abbey.  Good for morning coffee, lunch or a sticky cake for tea.
